Educational Leadership
On the article Four Taks on Technology, Susan Allen and karen Dutt-Doner, tell us that technology has made it possible to students to have access to precious historical documents that were previously the domain of historians and scholars. In this sense, technology plays an egalitarian role as students all over the world can search and have access to archives while at the same time allowing the students to manipulate these documents so as to make them fit their purposes. We can also deduct that technology plays the role of a teacher by captivatings the student's interes in history and guiding them to analysis which will enable the students to formulatr their own point of view and to realize that there is not an absolute right or wrong response.
In Friends and Flags, Karen Ening says that technology has made it possible to students to communicate with peers from different countries to exchange and share cultures and to learn about "respect, tolerance". Besides, these medium has touched the human spirit of the students when they have been able to respond and support their peers abroad after a tragedy or when walls and barriers are broken down as in the case of the collaboration of "Jewish and Arab educators and students". This is un unprecedent step toward peace.
Even though some schools have "limited and outdated resources", proactive teachers such as Mrs. Jones, believe that computer technology is of great value to her mission of guiding her students to understand and value their African identity and to counteract negative stereotypes. Using PowerPoint, Photo Deluxe and Microsoft Word, the students contextualized the experiences of African slaves in the movie "Amistad" to their own life. Doing so, Mrs. Jones taught her students to value their culture and to be aware of their roots. In this classroom, technology was an empowerring tool.
Hsueh-Hua Chuang and Ann Thompson on Students Teaching Teachers, show what an important role technology plays in the relationship teacher/student when the teaching experience becomes a collaborative effort. This team mentality changes the prespective of teachers and students alike. On one hand, the mentoring strategy helps the teachers as they continue to learn and to improve their teaching methods and skills. On the other hand, the students become active participantes not only in the classroom but in their communities when they take part in extracurricular activities that call for their knowledge on technology.
